About KTooN

Definition and Features

KTooN is:

  • A design and authoring tool for 2D Animation inspired by animators for animators
  • A software application developed in C++ using the Qt library
  • A free software project under constant redesign and evolution, released under the GPL terms
  • A community of artists and developers around a software project
  • A space for creation and publishing of free animated content

KTooN is NOT :

  • Adobe Flash competition or replacement
  • A development tool for multimedia interactive applications

Software general features (for now) :

  • Modular and friendly interface
  • Preview animation module
  • Basic tools for vectorial illustration (still beta)
  • Time line and Exposure sheet (still beta)
  • Animation export option for many video formats (OGV, AVI, MPEG, SWF) or PNG image arrays

Work Team

Mónica Ortiz, Producer

Functions:

  • Management of strategic alliances
  • Development and management of projects involving tecnology and social impact
  • Human/Talent resource management

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Social Communications with emphasis on visual media (Universidad Santiago de Cali – Colombia, 2003).
  • Co-founder leader of Toonka Films S.A. and producer-author of 6 animated products for children and young target.
  • General producer in Labtoon S.A.S
  • Teacher in 2D Production, Universidad Javeriana.
  • Adviser in Social and Cultural projects for public and private institutions

Manuel Alejandro Victoria, Graphic Designer

Functions:

  • Design of KTooN's corporative image and campaign visual pieces for the project

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Graphic Design (Instituto de Bellas Artes – Cali/Colombia, 2001)
  • Design Teacher, Universidad Javeriana
  • Digital Illustrator and Animator in several projects from companies like Toonka Films S.A, Cybios Editorial Multimedia S.A. and Labtoon S.A.S.

Gustavo González, Development Leader and Programmer

Functions:

  • Software architecture design
  • KTooN's components programming
  • Bug fixing and source code re-factoring
  • Patches revision of source code contributions - Software versioning and installer publishing

Education & Experience:

  • Degree in Computer Scientist (Universidad del Valle – Cali/Colombia, 2001)
  • Free software user since 1994
  • Free software advocate / Speaker
  • Ten years experienced Unix sys admin
  • Entrepreneur (free software business models)
